Never ending Indo Pak violence

Sixty years of freedom of the Indo Pak subcontinent have passed painfully. Still the animosities of two nations continue. There is a flip flop of the peace process. Whenever there is a terrorist attack in India and Pakistani nationals are found, peace is the first target. As a knee jerk reaction the Indian Government tightens people to people contacts. Visas are impossible to obtain, harassments at the hospitals where poor patients come for treatment, severe security checks in bus stations, railways and airports. To aide the government machinery hawks jump into the fray with extra enthusiasm. They sing their vested tunes of allowing Pakistani nationals into the country for sufi music, cricket matches and for hospital treatments. But they cannot justify why terrorists come through smuggler boats.

There is a catch 22 situation for India. It knows the culprits yet cannot punish them. They keep killing people. There is a globalization of terrorism. Cutting across countries there is a unity among the terrorist groups. Arms exchange, counterfeit currency making, human trafficking, drug trafficking and technology transfers are common among these groups. They hit at Indians this side of the border and run away to the other side. This is the old story of 80s and 90s. In the new millennium the terrorists are using technology to the fullest extent to wreak havoc on the Indian nationals.

India is more vulnerable for such attacks because of its weak multi-cultural, multi-religious social nature. The intention of terrorists to attack temple is to create Hindu Muslim war. The intention of terrorists to damage Mosques is to provoke them to kill Hindus. Who knows the global terrorists are aiding the conversion war in some parts of the country too?

What are the lessons learnt in these six decades of sub-continental animosities? The receiving nation needs more mental strengthen and physical power. Mental strengthen to withstand the frequent criticisms coming from all quarters after the terrorist attacks. Physical power to locate and eliminate the terrorists. In both these processes secretive operations are required. One cannot be louder about his strategies. The trouble with the Indian establishment is that there is no political will to act on terrorism. Much of the time has been wasted in debates. This is not party specific problem of governance. Every party had its own sweet share contributing to this mess.

While encouraging people to people contacts and bonhomie, the Indian government should work towards maximum intelligence. Taking Pakistan government into friendship and meaningful consultation is needed. They may be adopting double standards and two faces. Without Pakistan government on abroad it is difficult to checkmate the terrorists coming across the border. Firing missiles and waging war are kiddish proportions. As a matured nation India needs to follow calm, courageous and outright liquidation of the terrorist groups. Although it is difficult there is no alternative to it. Everyone in the government and society should value the loss of every life. Differentiating human lives on the basis of power, money and colour is dangerous for the long term functioning of the Indian state.
In the interest to convey sympathy to dead ones in the terror attacks most of the people in power, media and intelligentsia encourage the government to attack Pakistan. It is easy said and done. Who calculates the consequences of such a nuclear war? It is high time for all the nations to understand the consequences of terror. If the United States want to help itself and the world, the first step is to make United Nations truly an independent body and allow it to function freely. Any attempt to discredit UN and continue to make it a puppet will damage the world peace permanently. India and Pakistan should be urging for strengthening the UN if both are feeling the commonality as victims of terror.
