The NDA government headed by Narendra Modi has been doing unthinkable things in India. Call it boldness or craziness or anti-Congressism or stupidity, Modi government's actions are shaking the fundamental structures of India. The latest one is lateral recruitment of those who haven't cleared three-tiered UPSC exams. Nine professionals with domain knowledge were selected to be join secretaries in Government of India. These professionals come from cororate sector, Public Sector Units etc. The following professionals will join duty in GoI.soon.
1. Amber Dubey - Joint Secretary, Civil Aviation Ministry (Headed KPMG's aerospace and defence)
2. Sujit Kumar Bajpayee - Joint Secretary, Environment Ministry (NHPC)
3. Dinesh Dayanand Jagdale - Joint Secretary, New and Renewable Energy ministry (CEO Renewable Energy Group)
4. Kakoli Ghosh - Agriculture
5. Saurabh Mishra - Financial Services
6. Rajeev Saksena _ Economic Affairs
7. Arun Goel -- Commerce
8. Suman Prasad Singh - Road Transport
9. Bhushan Kumar - Shipping
This is not the first time professionas have joined Indian bureacracy bypassing three-tier UPSC exams. Earlier Manmohan Singh, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Bimal Jalan, Vijay Kelkar, R.V.Shahi, current sanitation secretary Parameswaran Iyer and head of Ayush ministry, Rajesh Kotecha.
This lateral recruitment can be boon or bane depends on the co-operation of Indian bureaucracy. Boon if the current recruits can manoeuvre the difficult terrains of Delhi and implement their out-of-box thinking. Those who enjoyed global corporate perks and lufe-style may not fit here. Bane if they fail to deliver due to their own mistakes and non adaptability to the present political bureaucratic hurdles.
